The Parts of a Pen
In deciding what you want, there are several options. At present I do not keep an inventory of pens. After consulting with you via email, it will be made-to-order from start to finish. You will have several choices to make.
1) Hardware: the metal finials, centerbands, and clips which determine the overall style of the pen. The various styles have names: "Statesman", "Gentlemans", "Olympia", etc...
2) Plating: Gold (Heavy Gold Plate, 10kt, 22kt, etc.), Silver plate, Solid Sterling Silver, Satin Copper, Bright Copper, Platinum, Chrome, Gold (or Yellow) Titanium, Black Titanium, and many others, including mixed plating. Some of the more expensive styles come with ornamental center bands and caps that involve a choice of platings as well. Not all platings are available on every style.
3) Ink delivery system: Fountain, Rollerball, Ballpoint, or other (like artist's pencils, and such).
4) Mechanism type: click pen, twist type, screwcaps, and in some cases, you'll also want to decide whether you want a posting end cap or smooth end cap. A posting end cap allows the cap to to be "posted" on the end of the pen, while writing. A 'true' desk pen usually does not have a posting cap.
5) Pen Blank: or the material in the body of the pen, like wood, acrylics, alternative materials such as buffalo horn, deer antler, trustone, alternate ivory, even snakeskin.
5a) If you choose a wood blank, you will also need to decide what kind of finish you want on it. I almost always do a hi-gloss. Put some prefer a more natural look, and so I can do a satin, or semi- gloss, and a natural finish with finishing waxes as well.
Those are the options. Let's take a look at some styles.
